Sib4Sib Junior

Sib4Sib Junior is a support group for individuals ages 8-11 who have a sibling who struggles with mental health.

Typical Structure

After participants eat dinner, our facilitator begins a fun activity that is rooted in a psychological stratagie or is designed to prompt conversation. These activities range from slime making, to reading a comic book specifically about siblings of individuals with disabilities. Participants will leave each session with a new coping skill and feeling part of the sibling community. Sib4Sib Junior participants also fill out a “Parent Feedback Sheet” to assist in communication with parents about what participants did and what they did/did not enjoy. The facilitator is always available after the session if a participant or parent would like to touch base with the facilitator individually.

Facilitator Information

Sib4Sib Junior is facilitated by  Lisa Gold, LMSW. Lisa loves working with children in therapeutic group settings and has a specialty in working with adolescents, young adults and adults in private practice. She is motivated to help clients make meaningful changes through a strength-based approach, using a variety of methods to identify counterproductive patterns and address maladaptive behaviors.

Over the course of treatment, these patterns are looked at and replaced with new strategies and skills to better serve the client. Lisa is also well versed in a variety of other modalities to help her client’s address unhelpful thought patterns and change them into helpful thought patterns. These modalities include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Mindfulness.

Lisa is also trained in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TFCBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), which she incorporates in her group sessions. Lisa strives to help her clients learn more about themselves by helping them build off of their existing strengths and then develop new means to relate to themselves and others. Lisa enjoys working in therapeutic group settings because she loves to facilitate healthy and supportive connections between peers.

Lisa received her Masters in Social Work from The University of Michigan and is fully licensed in the state of Michigan. She has worked in community based, hospital, and private practice settings.
